{"id":4734,"date":"2017-06-12T17:43:42","date_gmt":"2017-06-12T17:43:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.skyswitch.com\/?p=4734"},"modified":"2022-02-03T06:43:51","modified_gmt":"2022-02-03T06:43:51","slug":"makeup-mind-avaya-hardware-software","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/skyswitch.com\/blog\/makeup-mind-avaya-hardware-software\/","title":{"rendered":"Makeup your mind Avaya \u2013 Hardware or Software"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Back in January, Avaya filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.&nbsp; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.networkworld.com\/article\/3161752\/leadership-management\/avaya-how-we-arrived-at-chapter-11.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">When asked why, their Corporate Treasure, John Sullivan explained<\/a> that after examining their debt \u201cwe decided it was a critical next step in our transformation from a hardware company to a software and services company and the best path forward for our customers, partners and employees.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Guys&#8230;Phones are hardware!<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">They shed some significant assets in March with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avaya.com\/en\/about-avaya\/newsroom\/news-releases\/2017\/pr-us-170307\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sale of their networking business to Extreme Networks<\/a> but basically, it has been all quite in the newsroom regarding their aforementioned transformation.&nbsp; That is until May 31, when they announced their foray into a NEW market.&nbsp; And what is that exciting new venture\u2026SIP Phones!&nbsp; YAY!&nbsp; Psst\u2026Guys\u2026Phones are hardware, not \u201csoftware and services.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/skyswitch.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/vantage_device_hero_572x340-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4738\" width=\"572\" height=\"340\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/skyswitch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/vantage_device_hero_572x340-1.jpg 572w, https:\/\/skyswitch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/vantage_device_hero_572x340-1-300x178.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 572px) 100vw, 572px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Avaya + BroadSoft?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">What is even more odd is that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avaya.com\/en\/about-avaya\/newsroom\/news-releases\/2017\/pr-us-170531\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">press release<\/a> says that these phones are being offered in collaboration with and tested for interoperability with BroadSoft.\u00a0 And BroadSoft has had a campaign in place for a number of months offering Avaya customers a smooth migration from premise-based solutions to a cloud solution.\u00a0 Is this just BroadSoft taking advantage of Avaya\u2019s lack of foresight? Is Avaya just trying to hold on to any piece of the business they can?
